Referendum of the Citizens
We are a coalition of Azusa residents opposed to the expansion of mining in our Azusa foothills. The Azusa City Council recently passed an ordinance approving a Development Agreement allowing Vulcan Materials the right to expand its mining operation to 80 untouched acres of Van Tassel Ridge. We have finished circulating a petition to require a referendum to bring this decision back to a vote by the citizens of Azusa.
Petition results
On August 18 we submitted over 2,700 signatures to the Azusa City Clerk. The City Clerk accepted 2532 signatures to be submitted to the County Registrar of Voters for verification. We will keep you informed of the validation results. However, with only 1650 valid signatures required to validate the referendum, we are confident that our petition was successful.
